You picked your opponent right. You still lost. That's the cruel part of a tight stop — it doesn't catch you being wrong, it catches you being early.

The lesson in writing

From the video, lightly edited for reading.

Hi, I'm Mike, lead data researcher and developer at Olympia, and I'm going to talk some more about setting a stop too tight. You think you picked your opponent correctly? You did — and you still lost. That's the cruel reality of a stop set too tight. Think of it like a boxer: you blocked too soon, the jab still got through, and it put you on the mat, out of the fight too early.

Take a look at CRDO. Your entry was right about here — a good entry. That's where you started the fight. Then it looked like it was going bad, and you threw in the towel right there. That was your tight stop. Had you set that stop slightly outside the range where it usually shakes people out, you'd have stayed in the fight — and won it right about here.

A tight stop doesn't catch you being wrong. It catches you being early. We study the fights the way a boxer studies tape of his opponent before he steps in the ring, and the pattern is plain: most of the trades that eventually won went underwater first — some of them hard. A stop set inside the dip throws the winner away before it pays out. Being early isn't being wrong, but a tight stop can't tell the difference.
